The neo-classical author (Louis XVI) appears already under Louis XV
and the Restoration continues with the Board of directors and the Empire,
to go on in the style.
Louis XVI shows his taste for the straight line, but which is not synonymic
of steepness or of poverty. The built are in oak, the veneers to there
flood some, in mahogany.
The typical ornaments :
Rosettes ; marguerites on the cube of the belt of the seats ; porcelain
medallions ; lyres, baskets of basketwork, hot-air balloons openwork
in the files of the seats ; festoons (rehearsal of the same motive)
; distort binding ; rectangles in decorated re-entrant angles each of
a rosette ; grooves of the feet of furniture and of seats ; the crossed
off mask borrowed from the style Louis XIV " Boulle " but surmounted
of a raised bow on the head of hair ; the bows ; the small dishes ;
the rosary of plastres and of pearls ; the oval, flat medallion and
without border, surmounted of a bow.
Under Louis XVI, the work of marquetry will be made with more mastery
than under Louis XV, but the marquetry begins to tire the public who
prefers to contemplate the beautiful natural combinations (overalls)
drawn by the veins of the wood.
A curiosity : furniture are redone Boulle with brass marquetry and
d'écaile and furthermore the authentic Boulle are restored in
very pathetic state.
If you love Louis XVI, it are perfect furniture for the modern inside
and the same extreme reactionary modern.
