At the same time, the functional is discovered, and,
that also, it is a revolution : the furniture become practical, the
sanitary facility dares to say its name and one is allowed penetrate
into the day by windows skinned of every ornament : it is not the Modern
Style, but the Art nouveau, that will lead in " Arts Deco " of 1925
and to the current forms.
He is difficult to determine the duration of the Modern Style (more typical), one can estimated this duration for six or fifteen years, the Modern Style died as fast as it was born. It is abandoned and without going account that it has its repercussions in an NEW ART which sets more and more of place, being more popular. That say stalks, branches, lianas ; fear to little, they become the symbol of a style which wants, in the origin, symbliste. All this becomes muddled, is formed, that it is stone, iron, in cast iron, in minerals, on the posters, the furniture, the bulwarks ... The insects, the reptiles, gorgones, jellyfishes ... Those which made the style on 1900. The Nancy school based in 1888 under the Emile GALLE's impulse, its first purpose is to insure the continuance of the Lorraine folklore. Victor Prouvé gathers, under its influence, a group there of which will be a part Majorelle, Vallin Daum, Gruber and naturally, Gallé. The education of the Nancy school has for object to keep in the French modern product, as in the objects of simple utility as to those of the luxury, the sense of the logic, in the construction, of the rational employment of the materials, the practical instinct of the suitability and of the comfort under a finery of elegance, of beauty and of intellectualité. Materials : the two tendencies, Modern Style and Art nouveau, used materials which, until now, had not had dominating place in the construction. So as a great place is given to the ceramic, to the stoneware flammé and to the glass dough. It is however necessary to note the birth of a building material which gave for a long time evidence since : the reinforced concrete. Do not consider the style on 1900 as a style " background ", but as an alive, colored artistic expression, intended for the decoration and for the whim. Prefer the Modern Style, more typical, more cheerful than of Art nouveau, on horseback on several times. Take colours, drawings, materials, that corresponds most to your tastes. This time is enough near us so that you have the chance, cheap, to reconstitute, with the original details, an exact atmosphere. |
