If it is necessary to characterize briefly the style Worsen, we can make it by holding these two lines elementary : massivité and a symmetry.

The most used wood is the mahogany, mostly dark and varnished.

The mouldings disappear ; the leaves of cupboards are smooth. Sculptures decorate some furniture, they are vertical and steep, accusing the geometrical and austere structure of the piece of furniture. It are caryatids engainées, one sphinx, swans, lions.

Many columns or small columns, their main characteristic is to be untied from the piece of furniture.

The marquetry is abandoned in aid of the bronze applications, very used, they are gilded(bronzed), matt or shiny, black or antique greens. Great artists gave to the bronze Worsen the letters of nobility (Thomire, Biennais, Odiot, Auguste).

The motives most currents :

* Quite at first the imperial emblems with N capital letter and crowned, the bees, the eagle in the spread wings, the stars.

* The swan very appreciated by Josephine, and among the animals : dolphins, the griffon, the centaurs, the birds.

* The laurel wreath or of pink notably for the tissues, the entrances of locks.

The branch of bay leaf also as well as the acanthus lengthened and stylized, palmette and the ferns.

Among the stylized motives the Greek is most current. The spokes of hearts, the friezes of clover come then oves.

The decorative motives borrowed from the Antiquity or drawn from the mythology are numerous and varied : winged Victoire distributing crowns, the Fortune walking on the globe, on the caryatid and on the sphinx, on the horn of crowned abundance with pink, on the amphora and on cups, the antique and warlike trophies, the lightning Jupiter, the trident with Neptune, two-edged swords, lyres, rattlesnakes ...
