The different styles > The style Louis - Philippe1830 - 1848 Generally the clear wood are abandoned for the dark wood : mahogany and palissandre before, but also, ebony, and darkened wood : beech and pear tree. Flood, sycamore, wild cherry, magnifying glass of elm, maple, root of if reddish, thuya are as usually used. And sometimes wood painted in black, decorated with gilt and with painted motives. All these wood were not massive, but often already plated. Rustic Louis-Philippe respects the same forms, but is executed in oak. In a general way so : dark wood sometimes inlaid of clear wood, but also some wooden furniture clearly inlaid of dark wood. These furniture are most of the time polished or already varnished (already lucky) to warmly and have a beautiful brightness. There are also some furniture in iron cast iron, mainly for the gardens. The decorative motives Some are inspired of the Gothic : pillars or pinacles in the amounts of the big furniture, the Gothic bows or the decorations of rosettes on the panels, the openwork files of chairs of broken bows and polylobés, or affecting the form of a window of cathedral. Numerous motives are inspired of Louis XV. Others denote the influence of the Renaissance, such the frames and the falls of the pearls on some furniture. These motives are : * Inlaid : palmettes, rosettes, line, foliages, flowery vases, bouquets. * Painted : flowers, birds, scenes to persons, landscapes. The painted motives live however rare and would announce rather the Napoleon III * Sculptured : rinceaux, palms, horns of abundance, claws of lion, sometimes very stylized, and the thigh of frog. |
