The different styles > The Restoration Style

1814 - 1830

The two kings who were divided the years that lasted the Restoration : Louis XVIII and Charles X, were used to put back in place the company of the Ancien Régime.

Some antique dealers make a differentiation the Restoration enters the furniture and Charles X to introduce a preciseness by specifying " Charles X " for the furniture of fair wood which was created more particularly under the administration of the second sovereign.

The material, the whole charm of the furniture the Restoration Charles X is in the custom of these fair wood. The mahogany continues to be used, but the clear wood have the net preference : the ash tree pinkish, the magnifying glass of elm, the maple moucheté, the plane tree moucheté, the lemon tree flammé, amboine, the root of if, the beech tacheté, thuya, the poplar, the orange tree, the olive tree, the locust tree. The cedar and the sycamore are used in veneer for the inside of the furniture.

The decorative motives

The bronzes and the sculptured motives make much rarer, the great characteristic of the furniture the Restoration : the inlays of dark wood.

The military motives or mythologiques disappear. Collars of swan, nymphs, fancies, sea horses, paws of lion are still often used.

How distinguish a piece of furniture the Restoration of a piece of furniture Worsen ?

It is very difficult to confuse them, the colour of their wood already differentiates them totally : the mahogany for the Empire with the Restoration colour of honey.

But even the furniture the Restoration of dark wood (it was there to fabricate some number) would not be able to be confused with furniture Gets worse. The structure is rather similar but considerably softened, eased, in the case of the piece of furniture the Restoration.

Furthermore the bronze application, typical of the Empire, tightens to disappear as well as the attributes mythologiques and military which made the beautiful days of the style Worsen.
